FAQ
Q: Do you provide me with clients?
A: Yes! We do all the marketing and tasks behind the scenes, you focus only on teaching! We match you with our clients based on your availability, location, skill set, and how far you are willing to travel.
Q: Do you provide me with the materials and equipment for the lesson?
A: Yes, you will receive all the materials and equipment from us. You will need to pay a bond for the equipment, which will be returned to you at the end of your employment with us.
Q: How many hours can I work with you?
A: As many hours as you wish! Your hours will mainly depend on your availability, location, skill set, and how far you are willing to travel.
Q: Are you giving me a lesson plan and training?
A: Yes for both! We are committed to our clients’ ongoing progress! Therefore, you will undergo specialised Nereids training and receive a Nereids lesson plan.
Q: How long until I get my first customer and start working with you?
A: This will depend mainly on how fast you submit all your documents and complete the training. The most dedicated teachers started to work in less than a week.
Q: What ages am I going to teach?
A: You can teach any age from three years and older. You can let us know if you have any preferences.
Q: How long are the lessons?
A: Our lessons start at 45 minutes with no maximum limit. Most of them are 45min, 60min, and 90min long. Some clients prefer something in between, for example 75min.
Q: I have an overseas swimming certificate. Am I allowed to work with this in Australia?
A: Overseas swimming certificates might be recognised via SWIM Australia™ for only $130.
Q: How far do I need to travel from my home?
A: As far as you want. The decision is up to you. However, keep in mind that we can assign you more clients if you are willing to travel more.
Q: Will I be employed by Nereids or be a contractor?
A: You will be employed, meaning you are 100% protected by our swim school insurances (Workers Compensation Insurance as well as Public Liability Insurance) and you get paid your Super guarantee (11.5% of your salary).
Q: How do your bonuses work?
A: The more teaching hours you complete with us, the higher the Loyalty bonus you get which will reflect in increasing your pay rate!
Q: Where do lessons take place?
A: At clients’ home pools (backyard), apartment pools, ocean rock pools and netted beach areas across all Sydney suburbs.
Q: Do I teach in heated or cold pools?
A: Both.
Q: Can you guarantee me certain hours?
A: We cannot guarantee this as your hours will depend on your availability, location, skill set, how far you are willing to travel, and the number of clients in your area.
Please note that during school terms, the most popular times for clients are 3-6pm weekdays and 9am-3pm weekends. If you give such availability, we can match you with more clients.
Please also note that our teachers can get up to $1500/week during high season.
Q: What if I’m planning a holiday or have other obligations in the near future?
A: You can set up different availability or block out your calendar. As long as you are transparent and set up your schedule 3 weeks in advance, and let us know about your changed availability, it is all good with us.
Q: Can I join you if I don’t have my own car/motorbike?
A: Yes you can. Not having your own transportation will significantly extend your commute between classes, limiting the number of clients you would be able to service compared to your colleagues that drive. A fair few of our instructors started off without a car but then transitioned into vehicle ownership as the value provided is immense. If you are simply looking to pick up a few clients here and there you would do perfectly well without a vehicle. However, if you are looking to pile on the hours with us especially during the summer period, buying/renting a car/motorbike should be on your mind.
Q: Is this only a summer job?
A: No, we teach all year round. However, most of our swimming lessons take place in outdoor pools, most of them occur between October and April, but heated or indoor pools can prolong this period.
Q: What do you mean by “Set your own schedule”?
A: You have complete control on what periods during the week are set as available for clients to book. Having a consistent and structured availability schedule will increase your chances of getting and retaining clients as most look for the same day and time week in week out especially during the school term.
Any exams, birthday parties, holidays should be blocked off in advance. We advise a minimum of 3 weeks notice especially for holidays spanning longer than a week, as last minute cancellations of multiple lessons will almost certainly result in your clients being assigned to another teacher.
